Service History Check Online

The service records the manufacturer holds for your VIN, with dates, odometer readings and the dealer that did the work.

A service history check retrieves a vehicle's official service records from the manufacturer's system, showing every recorded service with its date, odometer reading, work carried out and the dealer that did it. It runs on the 17-character VIN, and it is the fastest way to verify how a vehicle has been maintained.

A well-maintained vehicle should come with proof. We pull the service history directly from the manufacturer's system, the same data its dealer network uses to track services, recalls and warranty work, and present it with the vehicle details in one report.

What's Included In Your Service History Check

A Service History Check from ServiceStamp retrieves the service records the manufacturer holds for a VIN, as reported by its dealers. Each report is built directly from the source, not scraped or summarised, so what you see is what the dealer network sees.

You'll get every recorded service event with the date, odometer reading, work performed and the dealer that carried it out. Where the manufacturer records it, this includes logbook services, brake fluid changes, oil and filter changes, recalls, warranty work and workshop remarks. Some brands return every service; others share workshop remarks only, and the coverage tier is shown before you pay.

The report also shows the vehicle details and a dated odometer timeline built from the recorded services. It does not show whether money is owing on the car or whether it has been written off or stolen; those come from a PPSR check, which is a different product.

What Is a Car's Service History?

A vehicle's service history is the dated record of every service and maintenance job it has had: what was done, when, at what odometer reading, and who did the work. It is the fullest record of how a vehicle has been looked after, and the first thing a careful buyer asks to see.

That record lives in two places. The traditional one is the stamped logbook and a folder of receipts. The one that matters most today is the manufacturer's digital service record, written by its dealers into the brand's own system, typically for model year 2012 onwards. The digital record survives lost paperwork, moves and changes of owner.

Listings shorthand all of this as "full service history" or "dealer serviced". A claim is only worth the evidence behind it, and the manufacturer's own record is the quickest way to test one.

How to Check a Car's Service History

You can check a vehicle's service history from its VIN, and if the vehicle is your own there are free routes worth knowing about. Here is every route, and when each one fits.

The logbook and receipts. Free and immediate if the seller has them. The weakness is that paperwork goes missing and stamps are easy to fake. Treat paper as a starting point, not proof.

A dealer for the brand. If the vehicle is yours, a dealer can usually pull its record from the manufacturer's system, often without charge. Expect to show proof of ownership, and allow a few days for a response.

An instant online check. When you are buying and the seller's word is not enough, when you are selling and need the record fast, or when the dealer route is too slow, our check pulls the official manufacturer record in minutes for $24.99, from the VIN alone, across 20 brands. The form at the top of this page is where it starts.

Why Service History Matters

Service history is the single clearest signal of how a used vehicle has been treated. Vehicles with a complete dealer service record command stronger prices than equivalent vehicles with missing or unverifiable history, and they're far less likely to land the next owner with a surprise repair bill.

Protect your investment. Skipped services compound. A missed timing belt change, deferred brake fluid service or ignored oil interval can quietly age components that should last the life of the vehicle. Verifying the records before you buy lets you avoid overpaying for one that's been neglected.

Negotiate from a position of evidence. Missing services or gaps in the timeline are concrete, dated facts you can put in front of a seller, and buyers regularly use them to justify a lower price.

Prove the service history when selling. If you've lost the paperwork, the digital record is still there at the manufacturer. Recovering it ahead of a sale gives buyers the proof they ask for first.

Official Manufacturer Coverage

We specialise exclusively in the service records manufacturers hold for their vehicles. We cover 20 brands: Audi, BMW, Cupra, Jaguar, Land Rover, Mercedes-Benz, MG, MINI, Porsche, Skoda, Volkswagen, Alfa Romeo, Citroen, Dodge, Fiat, Kia, Peugeot, Polestar, Renault and Volvo. Audi, BMW, Cupra, Jaguar, Land Rover, Mercedes-Benz, MG, MINI, Porsche, Skoda and Volkswagen return full service records; Alfa Romeo, Citroen, Dodge, Fiat, Kia, Peugeot, Polestar, Renault and Volvo share dealer workshop remarks, including recalls and warranty work.

Coverage is strongest for vehicles from model year 2012 onwards that were serviced at a dealer. For these vehicles, the manufacturer usually still holds the record even when the paper logbook has gone missing. Records come directly from the manufacturer's system, the same source the dealer network relies on for warranty and recall work.

Coverage levels vary by manufacturer and depend on where the vehicle was serviced. Independent mechanics' records are not included; we deliberately focus on the manufacturer's own feed because that is what buyers and dealers accept as proof.

When no manufacturer records exist, the report says so clearly and still shows the vehicle details. As stated at checkout, the $24.99 is not refunded in that case; a dated zero-record result is useful in its own right, as evidence that the advertised history could not be verified.

Lost the Records? Selling? Buying?

Buying a used vehicle. Run the check before you hand over a deposit. Verifying service history against the listing protects you against private sellers and dealers overstating the service record, and gives you dated evidence to negotiate with if anything's missing.

Selling your vehicle. A complete, verifiable service record is the single biggest lever you have on asking price. If you've lost the paperwork or never got it, the digital history is almost always still there at the manufacturer. Recovering it before listing typically pays for itself many times over.

Replacing missing paperwork. Logbooks and receipts get lost, water-damaged or forgotten by previous owners. Dealers now record their work digitally as well, and our report gives you that record in a single PDF you can keep or share with a buyer.

Service History Check FAQs

What is a full service history?
A full service history means every logbook service was carried out and recorded. A full dealer service history means all of that work was done at the manufacturer's dealers, so it appears in the manufacturer's own records, which is what our report retrieves. Gaps or missing evidence make it a partial history.
Can I check a vehicle's service history for free?
For your own vehicle, often yes: a dealer for the brand can usually pull its record. The paid check earns its keep when you need the record instantly, in full, or for a vehicle you don't own yet.
Where do I find a vehicle's service history?
In up to three places: the stamped logbook and receipts if they survived, the manufacturer's digital service record that its dealers write to (typically for model year 2012 onwards), and the seller's own paperwork. Our check retrieves the digital record from the VIN alone.
How do I find out when a vehicle was last serviced?
Run the check and read the most recent entry: every recorded service comes with its date and odometer reading. The last dealer receipt answers it too, if you have it. The report is the route when the paperwork is missing or you want the dates verified.
Can I check service history with a rego number?
No. The check runs on the 17-character VIN, which you'll find at the base of the windscreen (read it from outside the car), on the build or compliance plate on the driver's door pillar or in the engine bay, or on the registration papers or renewal notice. We read the make from the VIN before you pay.
Which brands do you cover?
We cover 20 brands: Audi, BMW, Cupra, Jaguar, Land Rover, Mercedes-Benz, MG, MINI, Porsche, Skoda, Volkswagen, Alfa Romeo, Citroen, Dodge, Fiat, Kia, Peugeot, Polestar, Renault and Volvo. Audi, BMW, Cupra, Jaguar, Land Rover, Mercedes-Benz, MG, MINI, Porsche, Skoda and Volkswagen return full service records; Alfa Romeo, Citroen, Dodge, Fiat, Kia, Peugeot, Polestar, Renault and Volvo share dealer workshop remarks, including recalls and warranty work. The brand pages explain what to expect for each.
Do all vehicles have digital service records?
No. Digital records are typically available for vehicles from model year 2012 onwards that were serviced at a dealer. Older vehicles, and vehicles serviced only at independent workshops, often have no manufacturer record, and the report states a no-records result plainly.
What happens if no service records are found?
It happens, and the report says so plainly, with the vehicle details still shown. As stated at checkout, the $24.99 is not refunded when the manufacturer holds no records; a dated zero-record result is itself evidence you can put in front of a seller. If we can't produce the report at all, you're refunded automatically.
Is this a PPSR check?
No. A PPSR check shows whether money is owing on a car and whether it has been recorded as written off or stolen. Our Service History Check covers how the vehicle was maintained: the service records the manufacturer holds for the VIN. Many buyers use both.
How quickly will I get my report?
Moments after payment. The report appears on screen, arrives by email, and comes with a downloadable PDF you can keep or share.
